The Bloody Barbie

thumb40You know how every now and then you encounter an experience that changes the way you think about life. Something that completely alters the way you perceive reality?

I had one today…

… when I had to put together a barbeque…

… with no instructions.

I didn’t know where to start. There were nuts and bolts everywhere. It was chaos. I must have put the damn thing together and taken it apart again at least 4 times.

The screws didn’t fit through the holes without a lot of brute force because the metal wasn’t aligned properly (it was all bent), and when I’d finally push them through, and screw them all together, I’d realise that I forgot to put the washer on. So I’d unscrew, put on the washer, and do it all back up, and then realise that there’s actually another piece that needs to be screwed in on the same friggin’ screw.

It was the worst 3 hours of my life. But I did it in the end.

Well… by did it, I actually mean I managed to make it resemble the black and white faded blurry picture on the box.

There were still about half the nuts, bolts, screws etc. that had come with it, sitting around with nowhere to fit in, and a couple of extra handles and other random parts that I couldn’t find a place for.

Now I know. I am not a handyman. Never again will I put together a barbeque without a set of very in depth instructions. I want to see where every washer on every bolt belongs.

Either that, or I’ll hire someone to do it for me next time.
